Anxiety is complex because it can seem like a normal part of life. Everyone has instances where they feel worried or anxious about things they face. Learning about your anxiety and whether you need help addressing it is important.
Anxiety is problematic when it is persistent. Feeling anxious or worried occasionally does not typically represent an issue. However, experiencing worry and fear that interfere with daily activities, last more than a short time, or present other issues like panic attacks, avoiding people and situations, obsessive behaviors, or debilitating fear indicate that you would benefit from help.
Common symptoms of anxiety include:
- Feeling nervous or tense.
- Experiencing a sense of danger or impending doom.
- Increased heart rate.
- Rapid breathing.
- Sweating.
- Trembling.
- Feeling weak or tired.
- Difficulty concentrating.
- Sleep issues.
- Stomach problems.
These things can be indicators that you are struggling. Talking to a counselor can help.
Anxiety is complex. Because of this, there is not one simple solution to anxiety. Research shows that there are a variety of things that can help, with many people benefiting from a combination of treatments. Possibilities include:
- Therapy
- Medication
- Deep breathing
- Prayer
- Exercise
- Adequate Rest
- Reading
- Stress-reducing activities
- Meditation
At Redlands Christian Counseling, we work with you to find the combination of treatments that work best for you and your unique needs.
Talk therapy is the most common form of counseling. In talk therapy, you spend time talking to a trained professional that can help you face your anxiety and find solutions. Most clients sit in a comfortable chair, although you can also stand, pace, or even lay down.
Sessions often last 45-60 minutes. This is a good amount of time to talk or work with your counselor without becoming overwhelmed. Your counselor can also discuss other options that work for your schedule and comfort level.
Many clients meet weekly with their counselor. You and your counselor will work together to find a rhythm that helps you address your anxiety most effectively while fitting into your life routines.
Your privacy is an essential part of your therapy. We want you to always know that you are in a safe, trustworthy space to talk about your feelings. The counselors at Redlands Christian Counseling will not share information about you or anything you tell. The only exception to this is if it involves harming yourself or someone else. In this case, we will talk only with those necessary to keep you and others safe. You and your well-being are our priority.
Medication for anxiety is an option, but we recognize that it is not right for everyone. We will work with you and your doctor to find the best plan for helping you manage your anxiety. You can discuss your thoughts on medication with your counselor, confident that they will listen and respect you.
We are here to help you overcome your anxiety.
You do not need to feel alone as you navigate your anxiety. We recognize that God is always with us, and He provides help through counselors like those in our office. You do not need to try to handle your anxiety on your own.
We offer counseling services at Redlands Christian Counseling to help you identify, understand, and overcome your anxiety as well as any other issues you face. The process isn’t complicated, and we will do all we can to make you feel comfortable. Start by calling our office. We will set up an initial meeting where we can answer your questions and show you how we can help.
